Kohler® 8.5RES – 3,600 rpm

This air-cooled model has a 624 cc, 15.4 hp, V-Twin Kohler® Command PRO OHV CH20 engine, and measures 42.5"l x 30.5"w x 32.5"h. Its 65 dBA output is approximately the same decibel level as a central air conditioner. The 8.5RES conducts a 20-minute exercise cycle and self-diagnostic test each week and carries a 5-year limited warranty. It is capable of running a typical furnace fan, refrigerator/freezer, sump pump, limited lighting, well pump, television/radio, and home computer, but may not run all simultaneously.

Kohler® 12RES – 3,600 rpm

Also air-cooled, this model has a 725 cc, 23.6 hp, V-Twin Kohler® Command PRO OHV CH740 engine, and measures 42.5"l x 30.5"w x 32.5"h. Its 65 dBA output is approximately the same decibel level as a central air conditioner. The 12RES conducts a 20-minute exercise cycle and self-diagnostic test each week and carries a 5-year limited warranty. It is capable of running a typical furnace fan, refrigerator/freezer, sump pump, some lighting, well pump, television/radio, home computer, home ventilation fan, garage door opener, and 48,000 BTU central air system, but may not run all simultaneously. The 12RES has more functionality and cleaner power than the 12RESL (shown below; the 12RESL is also offered at Lowe's).

Kohler® 12RESL – 3,600 rpm

Also offered at Lowe's, this air-cooled model differs from the 12RES in that it features: a mechanical governor, rather than a premium electronic governor; a DC2200 controller, rather than a premium ADC2100 controller; and fewer fault codes (it does not display high battery voltage, overfrequency, overvoltage, or undervoltage conditions). In addition, the 12RESL is not adjustable after it leaves the factory, and it is conformal coated - instead of potted like the 12RES - which means it does not offer the same moisture protection. Liquid cooled, this model has a 1.6L, 30 hp, Inline 4-cylinder General Motors Vortec DOHC engine, and measures 74.3"l x 29"w x 48.8"h. Sized 7kW and 10kW, these units feature 504 cc Extended Life and 570cc Vanguard motors respectively. The 7kW features a sound rating of 77dBA, measures 30.5"x22.5"x32.5", and weighs 255 lbs. A 7,550 watt unit is capable of running a microwave oven, fax machine, clock radio, computer, television, water pump, eight lights, a sump pump, and a refrigerator, but may not run all simultaneously. The 10kW also offers a sound rating of 77 dBA and measures 30.5"x22.5"x32.5", but weighs 300 lbs. This unit is capable of running a microwave oven, fax machine, clock radio, computer, television, water pump, eight lights, a sump pump, a refrigerator, a garage door opener, electric range, hair dryer, and a furnace fan, but may not run all simultaneously. Both units offer low oil shutdown, fail to start, low frequency, and engine overspeed diagnostic alerts; weekly exerciser programs; LoTone mufflers, automatic voltage regulators; and 2-year warranties.

Briggs & Stratton® IntelliGEN Series – 3,600 rpm

Briggs & Stratton's® IntelliGEN models are sized 12kW, 15kW, and 20kW. The 12kW features an industrial 570 cc Vanguard V-Twin OHV engine., a sound rating of 65dBA, measures 48"x33"x30.5", and weighs 442.5 lbs. This unit is capable of running a washing machine, a security system, a dehumidifier, a microwave oven, a fax machine, a clock radio, a computer, a television, a water pump, eight lights, a sump pump, a refrigerator, a garage door opener, an electric range, a hair dryer, and a furnace fan, but may not run all simultaneously. The 15kW also offers a sound rating of 65 dBA and measures 48"x33"x30.5", but weighs 480 lbs and is run by an 895cc Vanguard engine. The IntelliGEN 20kW is run by a 627cc Vanguard engine, offers a sound rating of 65dBA, measures 48"x33"x30.5", and weighs 540 lbs.
